Traditionally, there’s only been one route when school comes to an end

University. Degree. Career. But things have changed, and there are now many professional opportunities available to you straight out of school. Equally, the academic route is not an option for all. You don’t need a degree to launch a successful career at FMP. Some of our senior leaders over the years joined us without a university degree and have accelerated their career with us.

Things are changing and we offer apprenticeships in Dispensing, Business Administration and Health and Social Care. We can also explore graduate apprenticeships and distance / online degrees for the right candidate.

All of our School and College Leaver programmes are designed to help you develop your skills through real work, while also completing formal training and studying towards qualifications to give you a head start in your career. FMP will provide you with support all the way.

Reception Careers

Our highly dedicated team of Patient Coordinators are responsible for coordinating patient care services allowing the clinical team to develop care plans and ensure that patients receive the necessary medical treatment. They are trained in signposting patients to the correct clinician and play a crucial role in triaging all patient contact. Apprenticeships in Business Administration and Customer Service is available for this role.

Dispensary Careers

Dispensary Assistants support the dispensers in ensuring that patients receive the correct medication in a timely manner. Dispensary Assistants are effective Customer Service operatives who provide the first line support to patients regarding their medication. Dispenser not only dispense the medication but ensure stock control is managed and alternatives are sourced when medication is out of stock. Dispensers are integral to the profitability of the dispensary and support management in achieving this. Apprenticeships in Business Administration, Customer Service and Dispensing is available for this role.

Housekeeping Careers

Our friendly team of Housekeepers ensure that the areas the patients and staff use are clean, tidy and welcoming.  This team are rarely seen, working hours outside of the normal day but are crucial to the running of FMP and we couldn’t operate without them. Full training is given for the role.

Administration Careers

To run a large successful practice we need dedicated administrators to undertake all elements of admin such as facilities management, ordering stock, coding clinical paperwork, secretarial work, making appointments and ensuring we meet our quality outcomes. Our patients are at the heart of everything we do and these teams are vital to making that commitment succeed. They team work closely with the clinicians ensuring that the patient journey onward from seeing a clinician is as seamless as possible. We have apprenticeships available in Business Administration and Coding to support learning in this role.

Finance Careers

Whether you are an experienced accountant / bookkeeper or just liked maths at school we have the role for you. Our accounts department undertake a plethora of roles including payroll, pensions, invoicing and bank reconciliation. We have apprenticeships and support packages for Business Administration and AAT training.

IT Careers

Our IT department deals with everything from password reset to installing and coordinating the implementation of new software. On site support is crucial to ensure safe and effective working at the practice.

Leadership and Management Careers

Not everyone wants to lead, but for those who do there are roles from supervising a team, managing a department and leading the organisation. We like to identify these people early and support them on their careers ensuring that by the time they are in that position, they are the best version of themselves they can be and are ready. Apprenticeships and training to Level 7 is available for the right candidate.

Clinical Careers

Health Care Assistant

Health Care Assistants support the clinical team and are an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team. Your roles would include supporting the Chronic Disease with Annual Health Reviews, dressings, blood tests and supporting those discharged from hospital.

You do not need to have any formal qualifications to begin working as a HCA, however you will need to display patience, compassion and problem solving skills in providing expert care.

As a HCA at FMP, you will see that putting patients first and maintaining the highest clinical governance standards are our top priority. Our HCAs understand that what they do at work makes a real positive difference, so they take pride in the highest clinical standards. Apprenticeships in Health and Social Care are available for this role and if you wish to train for a degree in nursing whilst working we can also discuss supporting you with this option.

Nursing

Whether working in Triage, Chronic Disease or in a specialist area, as a nurse at FMP, your role will be to manage a group of patients providing clinical skills which include communicating with them, assessing their immediate and future care needs, and providing specialist clinical knowledge to aid their recovery and enhance their well-being.

This might include care of their surgical site, wound management, medicine management, lifestyle advice and providing urgent on the day care and advice. The wide range of clinical activities seen by nurses in primary care means that you will be exposed to a diverse range of nursing specialisms: orthopaedics, paediatrics, oncology, bariatrics and cardiac to name but a few. We have no mandatory weekend or night shifts so you can plan your life outside of work around your working week. We offer New to Practice training for those new to General Practice to support you in transitioning to this new role.

Paramedic

As a Paramedic in Primary Care you will have a unique role that crosses healthcare, public health and working autonomously to provide care in a range of clinical situations. As a Paramedic at FMP you would manage a clinical caseload, dealing with presenting patient’s needs ensuring that patient choice are assessed and met and support the same day care team within the practice.

You would bring a different and unique skill set to FMP which would allow you to provide clinical leadership within the practice and allow you to mentor and support staff in developing and maintaining clinical skills.

We invest heavily in your training and provide support on a continual basis to help you diversify your skills under expert clinical supervision and mentoring. In return for this, you will be expected to be hungry to learn and keen to share knowledge with your colleagues.

Physician Associate

Our Physician Associates work alongside the GPs and provide medical care as an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team. You will provide care for your patients from initial history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation and evaluation of a patients care while being supported by a GP.

You will gain the skills, knowledge and confidence to review diagnostic test results, correspondence from secondary care and refer patients on an urgent or non-urgent basis to onward providers.

Support is given for validation post qualifying and ongoing support to give you the fulfilment and satisfaction you require in this evolving career in Primary Care.

GP

We have always prided ourselves at FMP on providing the highest quality care to our patients, placing particular emphasis on maintaining continuity. Salaried GPs have the opportunity to care for their own patient list and develop long-term relationships with patients that are so highly valued.

You will be supported by a wide range of colleagues, with diverse skills and a strong collective team approach. Thus, ensuring that the patient journey is as smooth as possible, with the right person with the correct skill set assisting them from first contact. GPs at FMP provide clinical leadership within the practice, and you will be expected to be keen to support and share your knowledge with colleagues.

You will have the opportunity to develop interests and expand your skill set, for example taking part in teaching registrars and medical students on placement within the practice. Other GPs, within the past few years, have trained in the fitting of IUS/IUDs, contraceptive implants and minor surgery/joint injections. All of which is supported by a comprehensive mentoring programme.
